rawax welcomes maartenvan der vleuten to the family! we have the honour to present you some unreleased tracks from the 90 ! the dutch producer, composer and recording artist born in vught, the netherlands in 1967. from 1987 to 2007 he has used over two dozen aliases producing detroit techno, electro, house, experimental and ambient tracks and remixes. early 2008 he announced to only use his real name (or his initials mvdv) for future releases. during the 90 s he recorded mainly dance/techno for r&s records, outrage recordings, apollo records (belgium), djax-up-beats, see saw, esp and klang elektronik and several other labels. since 1996 he is also releasing music on his own label signum recordings. the two sublabels of signum, passiflora and glam, are now both defunct. he is the founder of signum recordings, passiflora records and glam records.

dlr needs little introduction, his name has become synonymous with underground drum & bass and from the beginning hes stayed true to his roots – hes never watered down his sound for a more commercial appeal. this stance has seen dlr rise to notoriety, even after his very first output. and following his releases on metalheadz, dispatch, utopia, shogun audio and breaks prolific symmetry imprint, hes embarked on a journey which will now see him set up his own imprint sofa sound, continuing the ethos which has made him so revered.

us producer d’marc cantu needs little introduction in the world of acid house and techno. since the late 2000s he’s been serving us quality musical output on labels like crème organization, m>o>s recordings, nation, altered moods or spectral sound, just to name a few. as well as his solo productions, he’s also one half of 2am/fm unit, alongside tadd mullinix (jtc / dabrye).
using a selection of hardware tools and analogue machines, his rugged sound draws on house, techno, acid, electro and hip hop and features crafty studio skills, knowing sampling and lovable raw aesthetics, defining his own sound that became known as jakbeat.
his latest offering for little beat different is, well, rather different in comparison to his usual club oriented output. it’s not as focused on straightforward dancefloor bangers, (although they are present here too), but features more experimental pieces, suitable for home listening purposes. totalling almost 38 minutes in length, this project has more of an album feel to it than a 12”.

soul pattern is the name of mac-kee’s new vinyl label. it’s synonymous with the musical focus on different spheres of house, especially raw house and chicago house, in which the art of the dj is rooted since the early 1990s. but anyone who thinks, that the label will be limited by following a pattern like scheme, is very much mistaken! rather soul pattern wants to reinvent itself with every release.

phonica is proud to present the song for mr. lewis , a new record from austin ato! austin ato may be an unfamiliar name to most right now but you will have undoubtedly heard his music before. the man behind the mask colin bailey - has a decade of music production experience under his belt using aliases such as drums of death, frankie dreams and the slumberjack. following on from his recent 12inch on futureboogie, phonica white unveils the fantastic song for mr.lewis ep. when it comes to producing electronic music, colin proves to be a dab hand at a variety of styles. his work as austin ato updates the classic house sound utilising live instruments drums, percussion and keys alongside electronic elements. at the core of song for mr lewis is a moving speech from civil rights activist representative john lewis on gun control in the united states, a message that sadly remains just as important to this day. on the flip, the dub versions strips everything back to the drums, a raw counterpoint to the deeper original, perfect as a dj tool but a powerful bare-bones track in itself. finally, the blissful morning closes the ep in style, with colin laying keys over the top of a dubbed out drum machine and bass loop that could just keep going and going. oh yeah! artwork as always is supplied by the talented pedro carvalho de almeida.

7th storey projects is pleased to welcome back the myor massiv head honcho for his 3rd release on our label. earlier this year, coco bryce travelled to tokyo and osaka for a small series of gigs. thoroughly impressed by his experiences there, upon returning home, he immediately took to crafting a slew of jungle and hip hop tracks, heavily influenced by everything he d seen, heard, felt and tasted in the land of the rising sun. the ep kicks off with its title track, ayakashi. dark, fierce and mysterious like the mythical creatures it was named after, it builds up slowly, utilizing a combination of chopped up japanese percussion, haunting flutes and hot pants breaks, before switching to full on amen assault mode halfway through the tune. shinjuku is one of tokyos most well known wards, and also the place where coco found the records from which the samples were sourced to construct this number: a turntablism beat/scratch album, and a compilation of traditional work songs, this particular one originating from the gold mines of the island of hokkaido. on the b1 track, kaguya, he takes a more gentle approach: sweet, yet melancholic, like the miyazaki movie of the same name. the ep is rounded off with hotaru, which borrows from an entirely different source of inspiration, namely dj krush s abstract take on boom bap hip hop. shards of mid-90s mo wax are blended with anime samples, making for a solid two and a half minutes of golden era-esque head nodding.

syne is the new alias of dennis huddleston (aka 36), who is likely to be a familiar name to those of you who follow the modern ambient scene. the syne label is dedicated to his techno/dancefloor orientated productions, where wistful strings and drifting pads meet vintage drum machines and 808 basslines. from the melodic, midnight electronics of syne 2, to the thunderous dread march of syne 5, culminating in the moody blade runner-esque vibes of syne 8, the syne lp is sure to find its place with lovers of deep, emotional techno music.

this october will see canada’s mathew jonson join forces with visionquest co-founder ryan crosson for a two track ep in the shape of ‘robots of dawn’.
canada’s mathew jonson has quite the impressive career under his belt having co-founded the revered wagon repair label and heading up itiswhatitis recordings as well as performing under his own name and various guises such as cobblestone jazz, the modern deep left quarted, and his new project units & measurements alongside hreno and the mole. here we see the synth aficionado joining forces with visionquest’s very own ryan crosson, who’s carved out an equally impressive career to date and will soon drop his second long player alongside cesar merveille focused on intricately musicality and an intriguing approach to electronic music via the visionquest imprint.
as you’d expect from such a pairing this collaboration packs a bunch, opening with ‘tempelhof’ named after the now defunct airport in berlin and laid out over thirteen minutes of gradually unfolding and retracting acid swells, resonant synth whirrs, mind bending arpeggios and dynamic, baroquely evolving rhythms.
title track ‘robots of dawn’, featuring added help from cesar merveille and new upstart artist isis, captures an old school electro feel via an 808 drum workout, vocoded vocal murmurs and funk-infused wandering bass lines whilst modulating synths spiral through the depths of the composition.

pierre bastien is a french legend that has collaborated with artists such as robert wyatt, jac berrocal and jaki liebezeit, to name just a few. he is also very well known for his compositions based on home-made mechanical instruments, designed and constructed by bastien himself. pure diy. using these instruments he would create a heady experimental mix incorporating poetry and some far-out music, all in all very intriguing and original indeed. needless to say when the notion of pierre bastien and versatile records potentially making a project together arose, it was a total honour! throw into the mix esteemed electro-acoustic composer eddie ladoire and now we ve really got something interesting. eddie and pierre met when they appeared on the same concert bill together and they decided to collaborate further with versatile being the platform for the fruits of this particular project. the original version of phantom dance is a beautiful piece where bastien plays a trumpet into some water blended with electronic drums and mellow organs lines, creating an otherworldly, subterranean jazz vibe for the freaks. suzanne kraft, the la native / amsterdam based producer turns the original into some mechanical broken funk vibes while rotterdam s oceanic delivers 2 fresh, reimagined versions. one for for the club with a strong afro beat feel while the other one is a slower affair for the after hours. both mixes bringing something new to the table. a truly original and interesting release from some very talented people, for those with open ears and open minds!

fleisch is thrilled to present the debut of stockholm’s dissoci&#333,,,, modus tr&#257,,,,ns, aka dmt, featuring four cuts of some of the purest, unadulterated acid ever to hit the streets since orange sunshine. in the words of terence mckenna himself, sampled in the opening title track, “dmt is the strongest hallucinogen there is…”, and dmt certainly hold true to their name as a pair of 303s weave a mind-altering journey through multiple dimensions of being. driven and dirty techno beats form the rhythmic foundation while esoteric vocal samples lead the proceedings through the tibetan book of the dead in “origin/destination” and “bardo th&#333,,,,dol”, and onward into the metaphysical mantra of “trans dimensional”.

following a double dose of newfound los angeles talent, apron records founder, steven julien (aka funkineven) returns home with the debut release from london-based enigma, molinaro. apron 35 is classic apron records material five slabs of soul-drenched techno anchored by groove and grit from a new name with plenty of experience. molinaro who has honed his production and djing craft for over a decade is one of the capital s best technicians behind the decks. a skill most recently recognised by nts radio, who rewarded him with a regular monthly slot on the airwaves. the first of which shot straight into the nts picks for the week. opener gio cements the tone from the off, drifting in with warm, enveloping pads, quickly joined by beefy drums and percussion in a five-minute sprawl out. jtl is arguably the standout a boogie-influenced roller aimed at prime time dancefloor. ty and -molow showcase the deeper, moodier face of molinaros sound palette before the beatless sofar rounds things out, paying homage to ryuichi sakamotos synth brilliance.

this is the ninth ep on firescope records, the new sub-label of the legendary b12 records. although b12 output has been the solo work of steven since 2015-2017, this time he steps outside of the b12 name and releases under his own name. one of the founders of uk techno, he has released on labels such as warp records uk, b12 records, soma records, delsin records, firescope records, art , buzz and de:tuned.

robert rental was the stage name of robert donnachie (1952?2000), a british pioneer of post-punk, diy, and industrial music. originally from port glasgow, scotland, he moved to the south of england with thomas leer in the late 1970s where he met glenn michael wallis. glenn was recording music with the group heute and leaving to start his solo projects nkvd and konstruktivists. both were heavily involved with throbbing gristle and the industrial records crew. in the summer of 1979, robert invited glenn to his studio in battersea to jam. robert on guitar and glenn on an edp wasp synthesizer. for each session that summer they would play for about 40 minutes, maybe longer, stoned. robert suggested they record it, many times erasing and over recording one session for the next. the music had no titles, as they were never intended to be released. on these recordings, robert enjoyed playing like robert fripp of king crimson, while glenn channeled wolfgang flur of kraftwerk. influenced by krautrock bands like can, neu!, cluster/harmonia, as well as terry riley and brian eno the duo forged a unqiue brand of industrial music. tape loops and synthesizer sounds played backward conjure dark ambient moods. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the lp is housed in a jacket that features a drawing by robert rental from glenn?s archives as well as a handwritten note from robert to glenn. each copy includes 2 photo postcards featuring a transcription of robert?s letter and liner notes from glenn wallis.

i made music together with lee for years (alongside mick rolfe) as last waltz. he also worked as lizards with james hadfield (james released solo for me me me 02), oli worriner, is a talented young northerner who’s already making a great name for his solo output, both under his own name and his traela alias, as well his label “tunnyl recordings”.
i’m really flattered that they’ve let me release their first full solo release, and i love how they’ve brought out each others deeper and more emotive sides in these 2 tracks. shit robot is a hero of mine. i basically wore out the grooves on a bunch of his dfa stuff from just over 10 years ago, and i’ve avidly bought everything he’s released since. i met him this summer for the first time when we shared the bill at a festival, and was so happy to find that he’s also lovely guy in real life. they say you should never meet your heroes, but i don’t subscribe to that as this meeting led to not one, but two fantastic remixes for me me me 08. the originals are a bright mix of melodically analogue left leaning house, while the remixes zero-in on a punchier dancefloor vibe, with an epic version goodnight, as well a more heads down disco dub.
so yeah, links within links, and keeping it northeastern again i guess.

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

we hope you like this ep as much as we do, resolute label resolute label s tenth release, the nest ep , features the head honcho himself, elon. written and produced entirely in nest s brooklyn based studio, this ep is a collaborative project that showcases vintage gear such as the tr-808, 909, prophet 6, tb-303 and sh-101 to name a few. the ep kicks off with the title track, a stripped back number featuring arpeggiated synths, warm pads and 303 stabs, co-produced by bulgarian live maestro, kink, an industry vet who needs no introduction. on a2, elon teams up with the machine obsessed italian, mass_prod, for fractious , a techno number with swirling synths and reverberated vocal stabs that echo throughout. on the flipside, elon collaborates with techno don alexi delano aka adny to produce flirtface , a groovy 303 bassline track with resonant synth licks that keeps the mood rolling. the b2 vinyl exclusive track, meander , features a second collaboration with kink. offered as a digital exclusive and co-produced by david scuba, last call features a modulated bassline and intricate drum programming that effortlessly rolls along.

ervin rucker started out as a pianist and composer in the 1950s. after he released his sole single on musette he changed his name to big daddy rucker in the late 60s. at the same time he founded his own gme label on which he released 45s under his own name as well as this one by dede copeland. the price i had to pay is jazzy soul track while the flip you gotta give up some money is an excellent sister funk cut. both cuts can also be found on the tramp records album the soulful side of gme & musette records

recorded on september 10, 1964, prior to his well-known association with john coltrane, this eponymous album (later renamed pharoahs first) is the debut release of the iconic tenor saxophonist. copenhagens echocord colour returns this mid november with brendom moellers magic city ep, featuring four originals from the new york based artist. brendon moeller has long been a purveyor of authentic dub-infused techno since stepping onto the scene via his 2006 sweetspot / humpback ep via echocord and has since gone on to release on reputable imprints such as third ear, kimochi sound, delsin’s ann aimee, mule musiq and of course his very own steadfast. here though moeller makes a welcome return to where it all began with some fresh material for echocords colour sub- label. caravan takes the lead on the release and in typical brendon moeller fashion were treated to densely layered dub chords, throbbing subs and expansive atmospherics whilst robust drums drive the composition along. magic city’ follows and ups the energy levels even further with pounding industrial drums layered underneath billowing dub stabs and eerie drones. ‘magic city in dub’ follows and as the name suggests offers up a reduced take on the composition, dropping the tempo and shining light on the billowing echoes of the original whilst stirring in some off-kilter rhythsm and additional processing for good measure. lastly,departure closes the package, with haunting synth drones, bumpy rhythms and murky vocals wandering throughout the seven-minute composition

with its sixth release new york trax continues the mission of highlighting the jewels of the new york underground. liquid asset is a philadelphia-born brooklyn-based hardware virtuoso who has made a name for herself by virtue of appearances on labels such as e-saggila s summer isle brooklyn s own primitive languages jacktone and acid etch where she has recently delivered a furious 7- split with isabella. liquid asset built her own 808 and 303 clones by hand. the modified 303 is particularly audible in the opening track of the record -ephemeral nights- where she did not waste time on an intro and went straight to creating a sonic pandemonium by blending an airhorn sound with frenzy acid basslines and a hardcore-leaning 909 kick. -contact- is a merciless creature of the night with its relentless dark groove building up throughout this composition cannot easily be classified as a representation of any particular genre. -controlperception- opens the b side. here liquid asset plays with a cheerful acid line over a dreamy landscape often punctured with bleeping sounds. finally in -forgetmenot- two opposite sounding basslines intertwine creating a minimal yet very capturing composition to close this one of a kind record.
